INTERNET MARKETING – BE PREPARED
This is not meant to be an essay on Internet Security, but a general warning that you must protect yourself from the myriad of viruses, trojans , spyware and malware that filters through the Internet.
If you are going to be involved in Internet Marketing you will need to manage passwords, email addresses and payment processors like Paypal with due care.
Here are some simple tips to follow.
You must have a firewall installed on your computer. A free downloadable version is available at Zone Alarm .
You must run an antivirus program. I use Vet and find it adequate for my needs. I have used the free AVG version available at My Web Resources and found it to be satisfactory
Spyware is the most annoying and insidious danger on the Internet. I run 4 different anti spyware applications per day and remove dozens of little programs that have attached themselves to my computer. Two great free programs that pick up most rubbish are Sypot Search & Destroy and Lavasoft’s Adaware SE Personal . I have also found Spyware Nuker to be very beneficial (you can try it for free, but it cost $29.95 to apply last time I looked)
Never open an attachment to an email unless you know what it is, are expecting it or it comes from a trusted source
Allocate specific email addresses for specific tasks. It takes a long time for me to move anybody to my private email address. I use several free addresses for safelists, the receipt of free information, downloads, clients etc. I strongly suggest that you consider purchasing spam assassin or a similar program to filter unwanted email from your private address. the spammers will get hold of it I promise you.
